HOW EXCITING!!! ETHYL'S!!!
I stopped by Ethyl's the other night after dance class. Yes, I go to dance class :-D. Chris and I used to go to Ethyl's all the time for karaoke night, even though the hosts (yes...they went thru several) sucked. I walked in expecting to NOT see any karaoke because it wasn't on their marquee. I was surprised to see that there was karaoke set up. No one was singing. So I took a shot and talked to one of the managers. He said the may be looking for a change. I gave him our card and LO and BEHOLD!!!! They called Chris tonite!! We start on Wednesday night!! (which is TOTALLY awesome since I have dance class real close to there on Weds nights already!!) I'm so excited!! I can taste the brisket already!!

Support Your Venues!!!
I've been told that summer is a notoriously slow time of the year for bars. This was my first summer experiencing it. I guess they were right! For the most part, we've had some really good turn-outs at Parrots. We've also had a couple of super-slow nights...but we still have fun! Here's something I think karaoke addicts need to remember...bars don't have karaoke for you to perform a one-man concert. Karaoke is not about the perfect performance. Karaoke IS about having fun with other people and enjoying some frosty cold ones. I understand that there are those who don't drink and thats cool. However, going into a bar...acting like a karaoke diva...and not buying anything...not tipping anything...will not earn you brownie points w/ the bars. Chances are, no matter how good you think you are, you will not be a very welcome guest. So get out there, sing some songs, have some crazy fun, buy some beverages and food....and support those wonderful venues that HAVE karaoke!!!!!!

Yes, I'm enjoying a glass or two of wine after a hard day's work. Chris and I have been busy trying to line up gigs and finalize some start-up stuff. Its been a long couple days around here. I've been working on the song books, registering our site all over creation and bugging Chris as much as possible. Chris has been busy updating the website and getting all those pesky little tabs working. I may have to have a party when all this initial set-up stuff is done.

First Gig!
DJ Chris got his first chance to try out his new equipment and music yesterday over at Parrot's. They didn't have a happy hour band, so Chris volunteered his services. The system sounds amazing. Very clean and crisp with no distortion. Every single singer sounded great with the new mics. Chris set up a small monitor on the little stage and had it turned up just enough so that you could hear yourself, but not be overwhelmed. Hopefully Chris will get some more Happy Hour gigs so that the kids can come out and sing. Karaoke + Happy Hour + All You Can Eat Food = a good night out w/ the family.

News Update 7.16.09
We've just updated our song base from 5,600 songs to about 35,000 songs today. We have more discs on the way but won't be arriving for about 2 weeks. I have a friend in Ohio who is loading them onto an external drive so I don't have to worry about doing it myself. That's about 1200 discs with another 20,000 songs. I've also got the subscription service running so we can update with all the monthly downloads from Zoom, Karaoke Hits Monthly, Sound Choice, Chartbusters, Sunfly, and SBI Global.

New Forum & Domain
We got the new message board today. Been modifying it all day and now it's time for a smoke! lol Keep on the look for new show dates. We'll update as much as we can to make sure that you all know where we're going to be. I also got my domain name today. I'm very excited and happy to finally be able to get most of this stuff done!

Finalizing the Details
Today Heather and I took a ride out to Bestbuy to find a laptop, but all we found were a bunch of kids who didn't know jack! So after we QUICKLY left Bestbuy we decided to head into Mid River's Mall. Radio Shack was our destination. We were asked if we needed help as soon as we entered the door and within 5 minutes ALL of our questions were answered with a positive note! WOOT!! So after that we walked over to a store called Threads, just so we could look at the prices for getting a few shirts made! $80.00 for 2 tee-shirts. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??!!?
So we decided to go home and relax for the evening. Well, don't you know as soon as we got home, we saw there was a message on the phone. Yup, it was Doug. He was running a little late and asked if I could set up the equipment at Parrot's for him. Being the nice guy that I am, I said sure thing. An hour and a half later he comes in and well... he played for an hour, then I came back. Anyways... 1:20am we finally pulled into the garage and slumped into the house and finally to bed soon after.
YEEEHAWWWW!!! lol

After watching the Michael Jackson memorial today, I whipped out the old Photoshop and continued working on the website design. I pretty much have it laid out as I would like to see it when completed, but I'm still having a few issues coding it correctly. Darn that html lol. Anyways... I'm very happy with the design and I can't wait to see this forum filled up with my fellow singers!!!

Lining up Venues
Well, today I get to make a list of the places that I am going to talk to to see about getting some karaoke in their places. I am looking for Bars for the evenings Monday through Sunday, and hopefully a couple Winery's so we can get some kids karaoke going on.
Also going to be talking to the condo committee and ask them if I can do some karaoke once a month down at the pool during the summer for the kids in the neighborhood
We'll see how things go, but for now.. keep your fingers crossed!

PA Equipment Has Arrived!!
We spent a good chunk of this evening fiddling around with the new PA equipment. Got all the components installed in the rack. Found out that we're missing a cord for the subwoofer and one of the speakers is blown. So we'll be making another trip over to Guitar Center tomorrow morning to swap out the speaker, pick up a cord, some mic windscreens, and maybe a pole for the subwoofer. We're really happy with the sound quality of the equipment we've got working so far. The wireless mics have a much crisper, cleaner sound than the ones we're used to using. I can't wait to hear what the sub sounds like. ITS HUGE!!!!! So tomorrow is fine tuning all the settings and more goofing around. Have to learn this system inside and out so we know how to fix things if something goes wrong.
Time for some R&R and Stargate SG-1!
